The 1st international Summer School in Greece, on “Synchrotron radiation: Properties and applications”, was successfully organized by the Physics Department of AUTH, on 5-8/9/2022, hosted at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation (KEDEK) of AUTH, and was implemented through the Training and Lifelong Learning Center of AUTH (KEVIDIM). The organization of the Summer School was made in the context of a nationwide effort by the Greek Synchrotron Radiation Users Network (GrSUN) for the inclusion of Greece in the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility -ESRF (https://www.esrf.fr/)A related proposal has been submitted to the Ministries of Development & Investments, Education & Religious Affairs and the General Secretariat of Research and Innovation. In the Summer School theoretical and laboratory courses were taught by 25 distinguished scientists from Europe and the USA. Participants will be awarded 2 ECTS after successfully participating in an online exam via the AUTH eLearning platform. The goal of the Summer School was the training of young and experienced researchers, as well as industry executives from Greece and abroad, in the innovative technologies of material characterization at the nanoscale that can only be achieved using synchrotron radiation (a super-bright beam of X-rays produced in electron accelerators). The materials studied include nanomaterials for applications in micro- and optoelectronics, biological materials, ores, materials for aviation, cultural heritage objects, etc. More information: http://xafslab.physics.auth.gr/srss22.html
