FINUSTAR aims at covering a wide spectrum of research activities, both theoretical and experimental, in nuclear structure, nuclear astrophysics and nuclear reactions. Though these research directions refer to different sub-communities of nuclear physicists, the interplay between these fields has been strengthened over the last years mainly by the utilization of common instrumentation and research facilities. It is therefore of outermost importance to bring researchers from these scientific "brotherhoods" in close contact in order to a) discuss common problems, b) present recent results, c) get informed about the latest developments in theory as well as about the most recent achievements in instrumentation. To meet these goals and furthermore initiate interdisciplinary collaborations, FINUSTAR will cover the following scientific topics:

  • Nuclear structure at the extremes (halos and skins, N≈Z nuclei, drip-line physics, high spin states, extreme deformations ... )
  • Collective phenomena and phase transitions in nuclei (shape coexistence, critical point symmetries, GDR's ... )
  • Synthesis and structure of the heaviest elements (new elements, high K-isomers, fission barriers ... )
  • Exotic excitations (wobbling, magnetic rotation, band termination and beyond ... )
  • Nuclear masses and ground state properties.
  • Ab-initio calculations and the shell model.
  • Developments in mean field theories, cluster models and molecular dynamics.
  • Nucleon scattering as a probe for nuclear structure.
  • Nuclear reactions off stability and indirect methods.
  • Reaction dynamics of light and heavy ions at low and intermediate energies.
  • Weak-interaction processes in nuclear astrophysics - Neutrino physics
  • Real photons in nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics.
  • Nucleosynthesis in the cosmos and nuclear physics aspects.
  • Radioactive and exotic relativistic beams.
  • Facilities and instrumentation for the future.
